Help a Palestinian family evacuate Gaza
United States
During the genocide E.S. (Initials used for anonymity) was trapped in Northern Gaza. ‘To say that Northern Gaza is obliterated is an underestimation. I took a few short walks in my beloved hometown Gaza City when I felt safe to do so only to go back to my apartment filled with insurmountable grief wondering how I am going to live here if I ever make it alive after war. There were still dead bodies on the streets waiting to be properly buried.’ He writes.
A carer to his mother throughout her battle with cancer, E.S. is HIV positive and suffering from complications as a result of the illness. This puts him at high risk from Israeli violence. Using a walker for mobility, rapid evacuation during periods of bombing is difficult if not impossible. During the genocide, Israel’s blockade on medication, its bombing of hospitals and pharmacies, left him desperately scrambling to obtain the medication that kept him alive. In the final month his apartment was bombed killing his two cats.
A queer artist and teacher, he studied in Turkey and the US before returning to his beloved home of Gaza “It’s the only place where I feel at peace with myself”. E.S. is deeply spiritual, his artwork weaves his relation to the divine with his thoughts on gender expression. E.S. hopes for a new chapter in a queer accepting country where he can reliably access medication. He dreams of cats and a place in which he can create art without the fear of bombs or occupation.
At the moment, the cost of living in Gaza is unthinkable. Please consider donating whatever you can to help realize this future.
